Your passing of the The Quiet Zone ordinance was greatly
appreciated. I am not only a Downtown homeowner, I live in and
care about my community. Thank you for respecting and
supporting our concerns to improve the quality of all of our
lives.
With regards,
Joan

Thank you! We look forward to turning off the air conditioning,
throwing open the windows, recycling the box of foam earplugs
and finally inviting family and friends to visit the most
pleasant downtown in America without explanation or apology.

thanks so much for passing this great legislation! this will
change our lives.

Thanks to all of you who voted to proceed with the Quiet Zone.
I think that 10 years of
discussion was quite enough!
|
|
Thanks to all of you who voted yes to the proposal.
This is really good news for the
city!

Dear Councilmembers:
My wife and I have been living
in the Marine Neighborhood since October of 1984 - almost 26
years - and we really appreciate your efforts in making
Downtown San Diego a wonderful place to live!
Implementation of the Quiet Zone Project will greatly
enhance the quality of life for those of us who live
Downtown. Thanks again for your support of the Quiet Zone
Project and by voting to begin the process to lift the tax
increment cap for CCDC.
Sincerely,
Steve

While I am very happy to hear of the success of getting the
quiet zone situation going I was sad to realize that this has
been in process for 4 or more YEARS and only seems to have moved
forward when, according to news reports here in San Diego,
hotels started to actively support ( shall I say scream) for
action!! Our various HOA's and the tax paying residents of
expensive (i.e. high tax payers) went around and around with no
results until BUSINESS/ HOTELS joined in. Sooooo.. the
conclusion is homeowners get lots of talk but no results, hotels
get action. Your comments please?
|
|
First of all, thank you for doing the right thing. I'm shocked
anyone would vote no on a much needed quiet zone for downtown.
This change will improve the value of homes, higher landlord
occupancy and ultimately bring more revenue to the city of San
Diego. I moved here from Sacramento last year and couldn't
believe how loud the horns were. As a private pilot and dealing
with noise ordinances, I couldn’t believe there was a law
requiring trains to blow their respective horns at all hours of
the night, thus waking up the entire downtown area. Hats off to
those involved in making the right change, thank you.
|
|
Dear Councilmembers,
Please know how grateful the
downtown residents are for your diligent work on the Quite
Zone Project. Words cannot express the positive impact your
efforts will have on the health of all downtown residents,
as well as for visitors from around the world who stay in
downtown hotels. You are truly appreciated.
Thank you,
Constance

A
great big THANKS! to all of you who voted to improve the quality
of life in our downtown area - to those opposed - shame on you!
|
|
Council Members Lightner, Faulconer, Gloria, Emerald, Young and
Hueso
Paula and I would like to thank
you for your yes vote on the Quiet Zone project. You are
forward thinkers with the vision to continue to make our
Downtown a great Community to live, work and raise families
in. In the years to come everyone will realize how important
your yes vote was to help fully achieve this vision that was
set in place years ago. You see the big picture. In
addition, we want to thank Councilman Faulconer for his
leadership and hard work to help realize this result. Thanks
again.
Best Regards,
Faruk and Paula

Thank you all who voted for the Quiet Zone. This is a true
meaning of Constituent response to an issue, whether Aye or
Nay. Mark and Pat

|
Thank you all for your time and efforts to get the Quiet Zone
passed. After the construction has been finished our family
members and friends will be spending more time and money
Downtown San Diego instead of us having to leave for other
cities to see them and spend there. Oh yes, we'll be able to
sleep though the night, a novel idea! THANK YOU!!!
|
|
Thank you for your historic vote for the largest quiet zone in
America.
Your vote will make for
America's finest city ever finer.
|
|
Thank you for understanding the need to address the quiet zone
issue. We look forward to seeing the trains run and the people
walk in safety without the horrendous noise pollution.
|
|
Thanks for passing the Quiet Zone which has long been needed.
|

GREAT NEWS------------DOWNTOWN WILL GET BIGGER AND MUCH BETTER
WHEN THE HORRIBLE HORNS ARE STOPPED FROM DISTURBING OUR LIFE
STYLE.
|
|
I
am extremely grateful and relieved the Quite Zone Project was
approved, thanks to the efforts of the creators of "Sound Off".
However, the two votes against
the Project were an abject disappointment to me, a new part
time resident of Downtown San Diego; its concerned
residents, business owners and visitors.
By voting against this important
project, Council members Maio and Frye refused to uphold
their oath to dutifully provide for the health, safety and
welfare of the citizens of your great city.
Their negative votes were
reportedly based upon the lack of funding for maintenance of
the project, estimated at $80,000 per year. I am not
unaware of the budget deficit plaguing San Diego and nearly
every large city in America. Whereas prudent fiscal policy
is critical in the current economic downturn, the short
sighted votes by Maio and Frye failed to consider the
increase in property values, hotel occupancy nights and
future development that will result from the Quiet Zone
Project, which will in turn generate new revenues that will
benefit all San Diegans.
The voters of San Diego must
give voice to their disappointment due to the negative votes
by Maio and Frye in this matter.
|
|
Thank you for voting yes on the quiet zone! Now downtown
residents can finally open their windows and enjoy a good
night's sleep. This will greatly enhance the quality of life for
downtown residents and allow tourists to totally appreciate and
enjoy our great city.
|
|
I'm
very relieved that this has been passed...Thank you for your
support on the quiet zone. I specialize in residential real
estate in Downtown San Diego. This is DEFINITELY beneficial to
each and every one of my clients living Downtown as well as any
of my future clients.
|
|
It
takes courage and hard work to accomplish any worthwhile goal.
Thanks to Kevin Faulconer and staff for their efforts and all
council members for their vote.
|
|
Thank you for doing the right thing to make downtown San Diego a
more desirable place to live. I will continue to support all the
council members in their work. As a five year DT resident
volunteering for CCDC and a past board member of the DRG I have
watched and listened to all of you and truly appreciate your
careful consideration of decisions that have been made about the
Quiet Zone and many other issues.
Thank you for serving on the
City Council.

Thank you to all Council members who recognized the downtown
neighborhood with your vote of support for the Quiet Zone
Project. I look forward to being able to live, and work,
downtown without the terror of freight train horns.
|
|
Thank you so much to those of you who voted YES! We are
confident it will improve the downtown living lifestyle. Your
dedication to this project is greatly appreciated!
|
|
On
behalf of all Treo residents, thank you very very much for
making the Quite Zone project really happen.
|
|
Thank you to all of the council members who voted for the Quiet
Zone.
We will at last be able to sleep
through the night after 6 years of interrupted sleep!
Many thanks for your support!
|
|
Thank you for your attention to this extremely important
environmental social and economic issue. The positive vote
indicates the council does listen to the community.
|
|
To
the Council Members who voted in favor of the quiet zone:
Thank you all very much for your
concern for the residents of downtown and not allowing
partisan and personal interests to stand in the way of your
city council fiduciary obligations to act in the best
interests of the city as a whole. Thanks, too, for being
astute enough to understand the total impact of the train
noise to the city as a whole , as Mr. Faulconer observed,
thereby resulting in less revenue for the city from lost
visitors and events.
To those who voted against it:
Shame on you!!
|
|
Many thanks for your support of the Quiet Zone. Those of us who
live in and contribute to Downtown need this implemented
immediately.

Dear Council Members,
I greatly appreciate your
consideration and your vote to move forward with the Quiet
Zone Project.
Not only will residents such as
myself eventually be allowed to fully enjoy their homes, but
businesses and visitors will also. I truly believe this is a
step in helping our convention tourism grow as well.
I look forward to the ongoing
progress of this momentous project for San Diego Downtown
and will always remember your prudent and decisive vote to
make it happen.
Thank you very very much.
|
|
A
huge THANK YOU to all those who voted YES for the quiet zone
for downtown. We have lived in the downtown area for 13 years.
The train and coaster horns have been nearly unbearable at
times. Maybe soon we will be able to get an uninterrupted
nights sleep. We are also looking forward to talking on the
phone without having to go in our bathroom and close the door in
order to hear when the engineers blast their horns. Having
lived with this annoyance for so long, it is difficult to
understand why anyone would have voted no.
|
|
Dear Council Members:
Thank you all, and especially
Kevin Falconer, for your hard work in making this historic
event possible.
We were told that this will be
the biggest Quiet Zone accomplishment, in the United States.
What a premier event for San
Diego, to lead the Nation, in making a neighborhood a place
to live in, prosper, and live in a peaceful environment.
At the last minute, two council
members, said that they would vote yes, and turned around
and voted no.
In the face of explanations that
the money lost to people not coming here, and loss of
convention business, was more than the cost of maintenance,
they still voted no. That is shameful.
I do not know how they voted on
the football stadium, but millions of dollars on a study is
substantially more than the maintenance of gate crossings.
|
|
Dear Council Members, Thank you so much for finally making the
Quiet Zone a reality! Having suffered with this noise for 8
years, I can tell you that it is long overdue and much
appreciated.
Special Thanks to Kevin
Faulconer for all of the hard work and perseverance you have
contributed. Just witnessing the resistance, voiced at the
last minute by Frye and DeMaio, was shameful! It
exemplifies the kind of pettiness and destructive politics
that hamstrings our City and prevents effective action.
|
|
Thank you. We knew moving downtown we would have city noises yet
we also know certain train conductors are rude and louder than
they need to be. We look forward to enjoying what our fine city
has to offer while sitting outside and sleeping with the windows
open.
|
|
We really need to stop these trains from
unnecessary noise. I've lived downtown for 15 years and
although I have gotten used to it I think that many conductors
sound their horns inappropriately without necessity.
|
|
Dear Councilmember:
The time has come. Please
cast a YES Vote in favor of completing the San Diego Quiet
Zone Project.
Residents, business owners
and tourists have had to endure Sleepless Nights far too
long because of train horns blaring in the night. There is
a solution and it is mandated from the Federal Railroad
Administration - it is the Quiet Zone. Citizens in San
Diego have been working on this project since 1994 and now
it is up to you to make sure it finally happens.
Vote YES to the San Diego
Quiet Zone Project. Vote YES to a safer, quieter and more
profitable Downtown.
It is good for San Diego
and it is good for business. Put an end to lost revenue -
lost because of unhappy tourists who will not return and
residents who move away from Downtown or choose not to move
here at all. Your YES vote is critical.
|
|
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! Not only will the quality of
our own lives be improved by the vote to fund San Diego's "quiet
zone," visitors to our beautiful city will enjoy their stay with
us even more than they do now.
To those of you who voted
for the Quiet Zone, please know that we are grateful. To
those who didn't, please reconsider issues such as this in
the future. San Diego is truly one of the finest cities in
the world because of the foresight of its decision makers.
|
|
Mr.
Faulconer, Thank you for your work in approving the Quiet Zone,
its encouraging that a politician can actually understand our
tax dollars should be use to make the lives of the tax PAYERS
better! Please have one of your staff contact me so I can
contribute to any of your future campaigns for office... you
have 35,000 people who would like to see you as our mayor. I
will also contribute my time to any of your campaigns in the
future.
Mr. DeMaio and Ms. Frye, I
will be contributing money to an OPPONENT of yours in the
next campaign you run in, regardless of the office...
|
|
Thank you for approving the quiet zone proposal. It is good for
us as residents and the hospitality businesses and will in the
long run bring more visitors and income to the city.
|
|
Councilmembers,
Regardless of what you
might be doing or where you might be please put January 22
2012 on your calendar.
On that date the Quiet Zone
will probably have been in operation for about a year. At
that time financial data can be collected and we determine
if the City got a good return on investment of the annual
cost of inspecting and maintaining the Quiet Zone
infrastructure and cost of liability insurance for the Quiet
Zone operation.
I personally anticipate
that by 2012 the economy will be on the mend and that
coupled with the new Quiet Zone will help downtown San Diego
realize, beyond current projections, increased tourism, TOT
tax, retail sales tax revenue, new business and residential
development and new and increased property taxes.
Thanks to all the council
members who are forward looking and who realize that
expenditures are not always just about cost, but that
expenditures can actually be an investment in generating
future increased revenue for the City.
Glenn

Please ask Carl and Donna to stay downtown any evening and
experience to unnecessary horns of the trains honking. PLEASE
get this done. The quite zone is a must ! Richard
Walker....Pancake Baron ! !

MR.
HUESO GREAT JOB FOR THE DOWNTOWN AREA, HOW ABOUT THE WORKING
COMMUNITY IN BARRIO LOGAN HEIGHTS. THE TRAIN WILL NOT BLOW ITS
HORN IN DOWNTOWN, BUT ONCE IT STARTS CRUISING DOWN HARBOR DRIVE
AND THEN ENTERS THE BARRIO LOGAN HEIGHTS COMMUNITY, THE WHOLE
PURPOSE OF THE QUIET ZONE IS DEFEATED . WE ARE A STRONG HARD
WORKING COMMUNITY THAT NEEDS A GOOD NIGHTS SLEEP AND REST. OUR
CHILDREN ALSO DESERVE A GOOD NIGHTS SLEEP AS THEY ARE ATTENDING
OUR LOCAL SCHOOLS .I HAVE TALKED TO MANY RESIDENTS IN THE AREA
AND WE ALL AGREE THAT WE DESERVE A QUIET ZONE. THANK YOU FOR ALL
THAT YOU DO FOR OUR COMMUNITY. AND WE ALL AGREE THAT THE MAN TO
GET IT DONE IS COUNCILMAN BEN HUESO, THANK YOU
|
|
To
the six Council members who voted to move San Diego forward
with the much anticipated and long awaited Quiet Zone - Thank
you.
To Donna Frye and Carl
DeMaio I must express my disappointment, You two have
seemingly taken upon yourself to be the saviors of the
budget. What is troubling about this particular vote is
that you said you were 100 % behind this project and voted
NO because you didn't get your way on the amendment. Do you
honestly think that your 6 fellow council members do not
also care about the budget? And did you not hear that the
revenue currently being lost because of the Train Horns
would more than pay for the costs of maintaining the Quiet
Zone?
There is no objection to
further study sources of income for maintenance costs. But
to attach such a an amendment to the motion would only have
further delayed construction which has already been delayed
for years.
I was so looking forward to
a unanimous YES for San Diego.
Again to the other six -
Thank you for San Diego will be all the better and safer for
your vote.
|
|
Thank you, Mr. Faulconer! Something may really happen after all
regarding the Auiet Zone. (I just hope they don't replace noise
of the train whistles with the longer, louder clanging of the
crossing bells.)
|
|
There is NO issue more important to us downtown than to get the
trains quieted down at night.
We support the quiet zone,
and all those who support it. Thank you to those who
supported it.
To those who did not
support our quiet zone, we will NOT support you.
|
|
Dear Councilmembers,
Thank you so much for your
support. Words can't describe how much we appreciate your
help in making not only downtown, but San Diego as a whole a
finer city. The train noise is (soon to be was) the only
blemish in an otherwise splendid downtown San Diego. After
a 15-year absence from my hometown, I came back and found
America's finest city even better. Tank you again and I
guarantee you that you will not be disappointed in your
support for this as it will return much more to San Diego.
Sincerely,
Bert

|
Thank you so much for your help. Our quality of life,
particularly my very ill husband's who really needs sleep, will
be improved because of your "yes" votes. It is easy for people
to think that we should have known about the train horn 5
minutes away would be loud enough to startle you awake and then
go on for another 10 minutes. But, it wasn't like that when we
stayed in a hotel downtown before we bought.
Thank you,
Howard and Lynne
