About Us

Just in case you were wondering who is behind this website and why we went to the trouble to create it here is an explanation:

We are local concerned Downtown residents who want to do nothing more than to ensure a good (make that a high) quality of life for all who seek to live Downtown.

This particular website is in direct response to the frustrations and questions being presented by Downtown residents concerning excessive NOISE from the railroad and the dangerous lengthy blockages of intersections on occasion.

By no means do we see the BNSF company as an enemy.  We view BNSF as a potential ally in providing for a better quality of life for the increasing numbers of people moving to Downtown.

The concept of a Quiet Zone is not new.  Several communities in the country have already created such zones.  The whole notion of a Quiet Zone arose from the need for railroads and residents in urban areas to co-exist in relative harmony.

So.... here we are in San Diego - working toward that end.  Please take the time to familiarize yourself with all the information about Quiet Zones and learn what you can do to help the process along.

Sources of information for this website include Sandra Simmons, www.viva-city.info, Gary Smith, President of San Diego Downtown Residents Group (SDDRG), John Anderson, www.CCDC.com, Lena Kent, www.BNSF.com and other residents like you.

One more thing.  The current FRA rule regarding Horn Blowing is one of those "One Rule Fits ALL" approaches to Railroad Crossings. The Train Horn rule must fit the situation. The Train Horn rule needs to be changed.
