Quiet Zone Update

Over 300 Downtowners attended the July 17 public meeting providing an updating on the status of the Quiet Zone project.

Councilmember Kevin Faulconer and CCDC President Nancy Graham chaired the meeting with representatives from the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), BNSF, Metropolitan Transit System (MTS), and North County Transit District (NCTD) presenting information. A question and answer session followed giving Downtowners an opportunity to voice their concerns.

Commitments were given by the representatives to finalize the legal agreements currently under review by the end of August. The legal agreements, Memorandum of Understanding and Construction Maintenance Agreements, outline who will build and who will maintain the 13 grade crossing enhancements.

Councilmember Faulconer will have monthly meetings with the stakeholders and intends to hold another public meeting in the future.

The CCDC Board of Directors approved the conversion of G St to one-way eastbound from Pacific Hwy to Front as part of the design for the Quiet Zone. The conversion needs to be approved by the City Council/Redevelopment Agency. The item has not yet been docketed.
